This article explores the role played by particular religious sub-groups, in this case the Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa, during the period of transition running up to the elections. I propose that the organisation's monthly newspaper in particular seemed to be promoting civil religion for Muslims which was both Islamic and South African, and set out some of its parameters.
