Description
Summary:Counselor educators are responsible for ensuring that their graduates enter the field ready to practice counseling. Research has shown that consistent feedback has been a key factor in increasing counselor effectiveness. In this article, various methods of assessment will be introduced. Supervisees can use rapid assessment instruments (RAIs) with their clients in order for their supervisors to hear diagnostic impressions from the client as well. The Counseling Partnership Alliance Check (CPAC) is a 3-item visual analog scale that focuses attention on the counselor-client alliance. The CPAC can be administered at the end of each counseling session and allows the client to give feedback on the counseling relationship. The CPAC allows the supervisor to also hear about the counseling relationship from the client's perspective. The Christian Counseling Supervision Instrument (CCSI) is a 16-item assessment that allows the supervisor to assess the supervisee's competence from a Christian worldview. The availability of these instruments allows for the supervisor and supervisee to establish goals for supervision and to have effective methods of assessing progress toward these goals.
