Summary: | The reliance of Irving Hexham and Karla Poewe on deviant informants leads them to reconstruct German church-state relations solely from the viewpoint of these informants. Thus, they do not differentiate between the beliefs of their informants about such legal structures and events and the actual state of affairs as it can be reconstructed through scholarly research. This lack of source critique combined with a weak methodological framework is becoming more and more widespread and threatens to render secondary literature in the field unreliable. |
