| Summary: | ABSTRACT: This article clarifies a number of terms used in end-time theology with a view to illuminating the theology of Christian Science. “Eschaton continuum” refers to a range of eschatological expectations in which a prophetic religious leader vacillates between the polar extremes of apocalyptic eschatology and ethical eschatology; and between catastrophic apocalypticism and progressive apocalylpticism. The author tracks the eschatological vacillation in Mary Baker Eddy's conceptualization of Christian Science in the hope of introducing a typology useful in analyzing other emergent religious movements. |
