Description
Summary:Abstract Norman L. Kleeblatt discusses four works of art that present problems of interpretation and reception, each of which touches on visual and textual taboos. Avoidance of works of art with such problematic images is a natural response. However, confrontation of the meanings intended by the artists frequently open new avenues for investigation and interpretation, not to mention new iconographies that often contradict the assumptions of art at the intersection with Jewish culture.
