Summary: | In Central America, both déchristianisation and rechristianisation are being promoted by various social forces. The former is taking place because of a renewal of indigenous religions, as well as by the unilateral emphasis on economic progress; the latter is sought by the alliance of the churches with the ruling political powers, and by the various links between Christian groups and those looking for social reform. Above all, it would seem that a Christian dialogue with and for the poor in Central America is a plausible option. |
