| Summary: | In this collection, political scientists Djupe and Olson aim to systematically examine local-level relations between politics and religion with a particular interest in examining nonelectoral political engagement. Addressing the degree of representation of religion in political conflicts, three questions guide the trajectory of the book: (1) What motivates organized religious interests to confront public problems?, (2) Do religious interests cooperate with one another to confront public problems?, and (3) How effective are religious interests when they choose to confront problems?, The editors strive for “diversity” on key variables in their cases, which are from a variety of locales in (mostly) America's heartland. |
