| Summary: | The goals put forth in What Motivates Cultural Progressives promise to be important for both religious and social movement scholars. This study centers around understanding how irrational factors come to play a role in, and in some cases determine, the activities of a social movement which claims to be based on rationality. As such, this text is an examination of group dynamics within social movements. While such a study might be located with any number of groups, the authors chose to focus on activists they claim oppose the religious right, cultural progressives. As interesting as this line of inquiry is, and despite the strength of the data analysis, there is trouble with this text that lies in the conceptualization and execution of the study which limits its utility. |
