Summary:Abstract Afanasy Nikitin was a Russian merchant who visited India in the 15th century and was not totally pleased with everything that he saw. And from this perspective, he might have been similar to Europeans who would visit India in the future. Still, there was a big difference. Nikitin might not like some Indian customs, but he was a man of the same Gemeinschaft culture as those Indians around him. And from this perspective, he was quite different from Europeans who were always alien to Indians.
