Description
Summary:This article examines the church participation of United Methodist males in the latter stages of the family life cycle. It incorporates three independent variables: (1) the family life cycle, (2) religiosity, and (3) chronological age. The findings show a significant positive relationship between religiosity and chronological age. Religiosity is also observed to be significantly and positively related to church participation patterns. The respondent's attitude toward his pastor is seen as an intervening variable affecting the hypothesized relationship between religiosity and church participation, particularly among "low" religiosity respondents. The data yield no significant relationship between the family life cycle and church participation. Religiosity is observed to be a more sensitive indicator of church participation than the family life cycle. Similarly, the family life cycle proves a less efficient predictor of church participation than the chronological age of the respondent.
