Summary: | Demographic and psychographic findings of a nation-wide random sample of United Church of Christ (UCC) local clergy are compared with similar findings of other clergy studies and with census data on the adult white male population. In addition to common demographic factors, the author includes information about clergy attitudes and behavior regarding race. Living for the most part in communities under 10,000 population, UCC clergy appear highly educated, moderately well-paid, and possessing at least some of the accoutrements of affluence. They show a high degree of support for the UCC program in behalf of racial justice, but few have taken a direct and active part in public demonstrations in its behalf. |
