Description
Summary:This paper reports a study of the relation between acceptance of Fundamentalism and commitment to Self-Actualization. Based on theoretical ideas developed by those studying diffusion and those who have used the localism-cosmopolitanism framework, and after analyses of ideas expressed by conservative Christian writers, it was expected that acceptance of Fundamentalism would be negatively related to commitment to Self-Actualization. While most of the theoretical ideas on which this hypothesis was based were supported in the analyses of a sample of Middletown residents (N=281), the expected relation between acceptance of Fundamentalism and commitment to Self-Actualization was not found. The paper concludes with a discussion of these results.
