Summary:At present the sociology of religion is an unprecedented success in this country, but this success carries quantitative connotations only, and little progress has been made in investigating the important substantive and theoretical issues to which the sociology of religion should be addressing itself.The reasons for this failure are analyzed, and the solutions sought in a multidisciplinary approach to the study of religion.
