Zusammenfassung:This essay combines insights of the sociologies of knowledge and religion to give a theoretical account of the dynamic interrelationships among time, identity, and social structure across the lifespan. Specifically, it addresses the humanistic problems of biographical coherency, continuity, comprehensibility, and culmination in old age. A significant consequence of this perspective is insight into the social psychology of secularization and how the pluralization of secular life course recipes contributes to the problems of old age.
