Description
Summary:This study is an investigation of the value-orientations of the residents of a low-income neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia, as evidenced through their religious beliefs and behavior. Talcott Parsons' framework of pattern variables was used to analyze the data collected.Data were collected on four of Parsons' five pattern variables. The value-orientations that were found to exist in the neighborhood are affectivity, self-orientation, particularism and quality. These findings are compared to other types of configurations of value-orientations and an attempt is made to explain why the differences exist.
