Description
Summary:Since the end of colonialism in North-Africa, it has been witnessed to a revival of the Amazigh identity, through its politicization at national level and the construction of a transnational “imaginary community”, implementing the re-invention of traditions ascribed to an “authentic” Berber culture, with specific pre-Islamic roots, its own language, its own myths, its own history and its own organization of time, represented by the Amazigh calendar. The article will focus on the latter, as it is emblematic of the Imazighen inscription in the history from which they were excluded, focusing on the experience of Kabylia, significant both considering the role that Kabilian elites and diasporas have had in the pan-berbere movement, and the articulation of its ethnic and political claims toward the Algerian governament, recently, recognizing Imazighen cultural products as a tool for national and regional legitimization.
