Summary: | If difficulty in maintaining one's relationship with others and with oneself can be considered one of the essential factors of addiction phenomena, the mechanisms and structure of addiction to pornography shed much light on efforts to overcome this difficulty. The composition of simplifying and obsessive images short-circuits at least three constitutive elements of relationships: time, meaning, and law. It remains to be seen how addicts can escape the vicious cycle of addiction and relearn to live in relationship with others. The philosophy of Spinoza may be seen to offer enlightening concepts that complement the more psychological contemporary understanding of addiction. |
