Description
Summary:This essay makes use of H. Rosa’s "resonance theory" through which religious concepts of the Hittites can be represented. Combined with this approach is a recourse to the theory of "other-than-human persons" from the so-called "new animism". A. Perdibon applied this idea to Mesopotamian religions, but it can also be used to interpret Hittite ideas. If one accordingly understands deities as "other-than-human persons", it becomes obvious that deities as acting beings are also in resonance relationships (according to H. Rosa). Reading and analysing Hittite texts against the background of such theoretical approaches can contribute to a more precise understanding of aspects of "religion" among the Hittites.
