Summary: | Ulrich Zwingli1 can be called the father of Reformed Protestantism, which has its historical origins in Zurich. Zwingli's role as a reformer was deeply influenced by his already developed humanist values, integrating them into his reformation theology. Although his final development into a reformer and the Zurich Reformation could hardly be imagined without Luther and the events around the ‘Luther-Affair’, Zwingli represents an independent form of reformation theology. Different perspectives, which have their origin in different biographical roots and circumstances, play a role here. Although Reformed Protestantism was later equated with ‘Calvinism’, it owes its fundamental design to a considerable degree to the Zurich reformer. |
