Summary: | Despite the disparity between various schools of philosophical thought, philosophy in its essence is focused upon the attainment of wisdom. This is demonstrated in Plato’s allegory of the cave when the man who had gone up and out into the light descends, once again, into the darkness in order to free the other fettered men. The problem that arises is this: how does one gain this wisdom? How is it that a confined man becomes unbound from his own chains within the cave of the mind? |
