| Summary: | This paper investigates the importance and relevance ofdialogue in interpersonal relationship and argues that theauthentic interpersonal relationship is essentially dialogic andtransforming. The importance and the transforming effects ofdialogue are explored through an analysis of Bernard Malamud'snovel The Assistant. An attempt is made to understand therelationship between philosophy and literature while at the sametime an interrogation is made to analyse the role of dialogue inphilosophy and literature. For this it makes use of the Philosophyof Dialogue proposed by Martin Buber and Emmanuel Levinas.The analysis shows that dialogue acts as a medium throughwhich human beings interact and it has the potential to transformpeople. The results of this study clearly emphasize the possibilityof using dialogue as a tool for transformation in day to day life. |
