| Summary: | This article aims to analyze a possible displacement of the Weberian notion of Modern State, regarding the use and function of violence, taking as object the management of Wilson Witzel, ex-governor of Rio de Janeiro. Based on the analysis of his inauguration speech, we discuss how he appropriates a deeply religious and utopian language to ascend to office, without presenting a technical-bureaucratic political plan, especially regarding public security. The use of religious language and the image of the servant of God at the service of the "good citizens", operationalized in a violent way and based on neoliberal foundations, used as justifications for the implemented policies, operated as displacements of what we know as the Modern State and the use and function of violence, victimizing mainly the poor, in the slumized territory. The method used to develop this content was bibliographic research. |
