Summary: | Who are the Pentecostals? What do they believe? This article proposes, on the base of an approach that privileges an internal perspective analysis, an historical reading of the Pentecostal phenomenon, probably the most impressive religious Christian awakening ever seen. It started at the beginning of the twentieth century drawing upon a strong tradition, as old as Christianity itself; its stunning growth occurred mainly in the second half of the twentieth century has imposed a review of certain established interpretative categories of the religious feeling in the West related to the processes of secularization. Its versatility and ability of enculturation, demonstrated all along the temporal trajectory of the last century, has stirred for at least two decades scholars of religious phenomena offering abundant research material worldwide.
