Description
Summary:Paulinus of Nola in 394 rejected senatorial career to live the ascetic life in Campania, far from his homeland. From 395 in Cimitile (near Nola) he orchestrated the cult of Felix and composed fourteen hymns for the feast of this saint. Moreover he underwent a complete renovation the original basilica, and built a completely new basilica as well as an elaborate system of courtyards fountains and hospices. However, we think Cimitile has become a sacred place not so much for the literary and architectural activity of Paulinus as for the miraculous events that transpired near the tomb of Felix. (English)
