Description
Résumé:This contribution deals with the concept of "apocalypticism" in both theological and historical-religious debates between the XIXth and XXth centuries. The study argues that such a definition derives from a Christian-centric vision of the relationship between Second-Temple Judaism and Christian origins. The article analyzes the unfinished work of Ernesto de Martino, La fine del mondo. Contributo all'analisi delle apocalissi culturali (1977), highlighting its connections with the theological speculation of the XXth century; John J. Collins' and Paolo Sacchi's research is also discussed, as is the relationship between Jewish and proto-Christian apocalyptic texts and some shamanistic visionary techniques attested in different ethnographic examples. Commencing with a historical-religious comparative methodology of differentiation, this study stresses the similarities and the differences between the concrete visionary experiences in ethnographic contexts and the ecstatic reports transmitted by the apocalyptic texts, in order to evaluate the possibility that there exists a "shamanistic" key to this documentation.
