Description
Summary:This paper focuses on two defixiones from Kempten (Germany) and Sisak (Croatia) mentioning the ancient Latin goddess Muta Tacita. Far from being an invented deity - according to Ovid's consideration -, these texts document the vitality of this divine personality in the new syncretic religious horizons of Rhaetia and Pannonia. In a similia similibus process, the silencing effect of the goddess (mentioned in plural in one case and in company of the river god Savus in the second) is analogically propitiated on the targets mentioned in both inscriptions.
