| Summary: | In this contribution only a few remarks and reflections will be presented on the current research concerning Judaism at the time of the birth of Christianity. First, by way of a formative or informative introduction, elements will be provided about certain universal characters of Judaism in Palestine and the Diaspora. Second, some insights will be given on Galilee in Jesus' time, because it is Jesus' country of origin as well as of his first disciples. In a third section, former perspectives on Judaism in the early centuries of our era will be discussed, with the aim of exposing, in a fourth section, some perspectives in recent research which have emerged thanks to new paradigms. It is just an « ouverture », in the musical sense, to the history of ancient Judaism, in order to render more intelligible the rise, at a certain time, of a figure like Jesus of Nazareth and the Christian movement.
