| Summary: | The Czech Republic seems to be the unique piece of land among the sea of religious states of Central and Eastern Europe. Their famous lack of religion in the public life and division the public and private parts of life made them an interesting case study for all who tries to understand European identity. The purpose of this article is to identify relationships between Czechs’ religion attitudes and their point of view for the state’s role and relations with citizens. The first part is focused on the past of Czech and historical background which created their national identity. The second part shows some examples of modern policy and relations between religion and the statelaw regulation. This article investigates how and what Czechs think about religion as an element of their identity. Moreover, the historical background described in the text allows to understand why they insist on separating the public and private religious aspects of their life. This is illustrated through some statistic researches and articles. Kiedy się myśli o najbardziej zlaicyzowanych społeczeństwach w Europie Środkowej, Czesi są pierwszą z grup, która od razu przychodzi do głowy. Stanowi ona kontrast dla Polaków, których powszechnie uznaje się za głęboko wierzących katolików, dla protestanckich Niemców i Austriaków, a nawet Węgrów będących wyznawcami różnych form chrześcijaństwa. Czesi zatem nie wpisują się w model postkomunistycznych społeczeństw, które część swojej tożsamości powojennej, a także opór wobec dziewiętnastowiecznej władzy budowały na fundamentach religijnych. Zdecydowanie inaczej niż w przypadku państw zachodniej Europy wygląda czeski model państwa świeckiego. Można więc uznać, że zarówno w perspektywie historycznej, jak i współczesnej Republika Czeska i jej mieszkańcy stanowią swoiste case study. Otoczeni bowiem państwami, w których relacja tożsamość-religia jest nadal ważna, Czesi zbudowali swoje państwo od razu jako twór świecki. |
