Summary: | In this paper, conceived as a short introduction to the Romanian translation of the Gheraṇḍa-saṁhitā - a Haṭha-yoga text attributed to Gheraṇḍa (cca 17th century AD) - we are, on one hand, offering a brief overview of the major late medieval Yoga schools (Mantra-°, Laya-°, Haṭha-° and Rāja-yoga), with a focus on Haṭha-yoga, and on the other hand giving a careful description of the subject matter from within the seven chapters of the book in comparison with some of the most important Yoga texts (Yoga-sūtra, Haṭha[yoga]-pradīpikā, Śiva-saṁhitā, Gorakṣa-śataka, Dattāteyayoga-śāstra, etc.). Our effort was to give a text-based-tool in understanding Gheraṇḍa-saṁhitā for both the neophyte and the scholar. |
