Description
Summary:Poles much too often hear that they live in an open, tolerant, democratic country governed by the rule of law, with a "chance" of becoming an "island of freedom" in increasingly more corrupt Europe. Those clear-cut recommendations make adequate encouragement to consider thoroughly the issue communicated in the title of this paper. We have included tolerance, along with a number of significant words as "honour and Fatherland" in the cannon of values that apparently constitute our positive characteristic features. The phenomena recently observed in a public space, as well as in our common everyday life raise the question of whether we overuse the word "tolerance", and whether this concept now carries the same value that we know from the past. The word "apparently" has not occurred by chance, and it suggests that the author shares serious doubts about the condition of tolerance in Poland and searches for the reasons for this status quo.
