Description
Summary:The meaning of natural law faced with the "crisis of the Church" is an attempt to answer the question of what the social and cultural status, functions and the content of natural law at the beginning of the 21st century in view of the metaphysical and religious proposal (of the Catholic Church and Neo-Scholasticism) are. In 2000 the International Theological Committee published a document entitled "In search of universalethics: a newapproach to natural law," in which it tried to justify the need for universal ethics, truth and absolute good. Of course, the universal ethics should enroot gospel in the culture through natural law. Thus, the "new" approach to natural law is an attempt to revive, to re-evangelize Christian (Catholic) values. Can the "civilization of death" (John Paul II), the raging relativism, nihilism (Benedict XVI), consumerism and "pygmyization" of values (Francis) be prevented by the return to the "authentic" values, and universal ethics through the acceptance of natural law? Can the reception of the Great Values be a remedy for the contemporary state of culture? - A culture that is multi-religious, pluralistic and, by definition, open to different concepts of reality. Are the axiological monism and ethical universalism an answer and the expected proposal of the contemporary culture and the civilization of the West? Thus, what are the function, content and meaning of natural law in "view of faith," and what are they in "view of culture"?
