Description
Summary:The search for explanation of genesis of religious fundamentalism in the United States discusses a conflict between modernity and traditionalism in a context of a conflict between and central, urban, progressive, scientific and peripheral, rural, obscure. In this paper I argue that there is a close relationship between ‚modernity‛ and religious fundamentalism‛, however ‚modernity‛ has a negative connotation as a traumatic social and individual experience. Lynchburg, Virginia, became a symbol of what was wrong with modernity imposing pseudoscientific policies of eugenics and growth fundamentalism resulted from that experience.
