Description
Summary:Using the term spirituality with reference to the phenomena that became less and less religious in nature or non-religious, turns out to be unjustifiable if we reject: the dynamic character of pursuing perfection (moral or religious) according to patterns developed by previous generations (spiritual traditions); the inevitability of our struggle with imperfections (vices usually of social character); the need for control of emotions and attitudes, self-discipline and sacrifices ({skēsis) as well as the systematic acquisition of the mentioned above average capabilities that pertain directly to highly regarded values (virtues). Spirituality is not about self-fulfillment and happiness achieved by means of the least spiritual effort possible. It is rather an advanced quest of perfection on account of higher values, and it does not have much in common with individual excellence in isolation from the social contexts, even if they may be in deep crises.
