Summary:Religion and secularizaion theories are the constant elements of sociological discourse. Differentiation of the sacred from the profane continues to produce interesting public debates. In the paper it is presented the analysis of public discourse of the problem of crosses in schools, caused by judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the case Lautsi vs. Italy in 2009 and 2011. Based on the analysis of the main trends in the debate author proposes a theoretical models of attitudes on the place of religion in the public sphere, and also shows reference of these models to the theoretical framework arising from the contemporary sociological thought, especially to the José Casanova’s thesis of the privatization of religion.
