| Summary: | The non-governmental sector - in spite of the ephemeral character of its organizations - has become a permanent feature of the Polish landscape. On the one hand some symptoms indicate it’s weakening, e.g. in 2004-2008 readiness for taking up projects decreased, on the other - pro-social beliefs strengthened. In these circumstances the presence of the church and religious third sector organizations in the local environment is an interesting research area. What kind of activities do they engage in? Do they attempt to play roles in the local community or do they limit their activity to religious structures, e.g. parish? What are the forms, restrictions and strategies of their activity? Do they create social capital that crosses the borders of their community? The research presented in this paper was of a qualitative nature and was carried out in spring 2011and 2012 in the province of Lower Silesia among leaders of organizations related in various ways to the Christian Churches. |
