Summary: | The act of the International Theological Committee In search of an universal ethics: a new approach towards the natural law expresses the conviction of the Roman Catholic Church on the existence of objective and universal moral values. According to this document, moral values constitute moral norms, and these constitute the legal and political order, and by that fact they should direct the conduct of individuals and societies independent from their religious convictions and worldviews. The doctrine of a "renewed" natural law takes as sufficient the recognition of an universal ethical message, which's full meaning is being revealed in the "light of faith". However, isn't the formula of a "renewed" natural law, proposed by the Catholic Church, just an attempt of reception of "Grand Values", an axiological monism? Does the recognition of the natural law as the foundation, an essential concept of being and moral (Christian) values, contributes to the dialogue and protection of the human rights? Or does it contribute to the emergence of new (unsurpassable) limits in the Western culture, a multi-religious, multi-ethnic, pluralistic in the sense of worldviews and ideologies, which basic assumptions defend the elementary rights and the dignity of man? |
