Zusammenfassung:During the interwar period the Greek-Catholic church in Poland was moved by the debate on the presence of Latin tradition in the Eastern Rite, led by the clergy and the secular believers. Some stressed the need of assimilation between the Greek- and Roman-Catholic churches (introduction of celibacy for clerics, adoption of Gregorian calendar). Others thought that Greek-Catholic rite should return to its orthodox roots. The discussion about the Greek-Catholic tradition had also political aspects. The government of Polish 2nd Republic supported the attempts to westernize the rite in hopes that the Church would become closely connected to the Polish state.
