| Summary: | Muoviamo le nostre considerazioni da una constatazione fenomenologica: la condizione umana è da sempre un grande punto di domanda e insieme un fattore di disagio e inquietudine. La difficoltà a trovare una chiarezza su se stessi viene esplicitata da una grande varietà di immagini e definizioni che esprimono specifiche caratteristiche dell’umano, ma mostrano al contempo la complessità che ci caratterizza e il desiderio di unificare i tanti aspetti facendoli convergere in una precisa direzione. La domanda sull’umano è, in effetti, domanda su di un qualcuno che ha un corpo vivente, che sente, pensa, ha coscienza di sé e del mondo circostante; che è strutturalmente relazionato e quindi aperto, eccedente, in un continuo movimento di ricerca del senso e del trascendente. Guardare ad alcuni scenari che toccano e interpellano l’umano nel mondo contemporaneo - estremizzazione dell’individualismo, avanzamento di tecniche a supporto di una eliminazione di malattie e invecchiamento, potenziamento delle intelligenze artificiali, desensibilizzazione sociale - richiede una reinterpretazione dell’umano stesso alla luce del concetto di persona, nello specifico quello propriamente mutuato dalla tradizione cristiana, ovvero del suo intrinseco legame con un Dio che è persona e/in comunione, al fine di mantenere una chiara distinzione tra ciò che è propriamente umano e ciò che non lo è. What is the Human Being? A Challenging Question, still Relevant Today Our considerations in the present article begin with a phenomenological observation: the human condition has always been a great question mark and a source of unease and disquiet. The difficulty in finding clarity about one’s self is explicitly evoked in a great variety of images and definitions. They are the expressions of the specific characteristics of the human being, and also point to both human complexity and the desire to unify the human being’s multiple aspects by bringing them together to converge towards a specific end. Questions relative to the human being are, in fact, questions about a being with a living body, who feels, thinks, and is aware of himself and the world around him; a being who is structurally related and therefore open, continuously in search of meaning and the transcendent. The human in the contemporary world is faced with many challenges: extreme individualism; the advancement of techniques for the elimination of disease and ageing; the rising importance of artificial intelligence; social desensitisation. Meeting these challenges requires a reinterpretation of the human in light of the concept of person. The person according to Christian tradition, intrinsically related to God as person and communion, sheds light on the meaning of the human being, enabling us to maintain a clear distinction between what is properly human and what is not. |
