| Summary: | This paper explores the phenomenon of atheist spirituality by analyzing several exemplary accounts (by Ronald Dworkin, Thomas Metzinger, André Comte-Sponville, and Robert Solomon). Based on this analysis, I then try to develop a coherent concept of atheist spirituality. This analysis shows that atheist spirituality is a kind of intentional attitude towards reality as a whole; that it is evaluative; that it has a specific emotional quality; and that it has a noetic character. The central insight at the root of atheist spirituality is that our natural attitude to our Self is wrong and must be transformed. While religious and nonreligious types of spirituality are related, religious beliefs are neither necessary nor sufficient for a spiritual attitude. Diese Abhandlung untersucht das Phänomen atheistischer Spiritualität und versucht, aus der Analyse einer Reihe exemplarischer Darstellungen einen konsistenten Begriff davon zu entwickeln. Es werden Entwürfe atheistischer Spiritualität von Ronald Dworkin, Thomas Metzinger, André Comte-Sponville und Robert Solomon untersucht. Die anschließende Analyse zeigt, dass es sich bei atheistischer Spiritualität um eine spezifische Form von intentionaler Einstellung zur Gesamtheit der Wirklichkeit handelt, die evaluativ ist, eine charakteristische emotionale Qualität und einen noetischen Aspekt besitzt. Zentral für Konzeptionen atheistischer Spiritualität ist die Erkenntnis, dass das natürliche Verhältnis zum Selbst falsch ist und transformiert werden muss. Religiöse und atheistische Formen von Spiritualität erweisen sich als verwandte Phänomene, religiöse Überzeugungen sind allerdings weder notwendig noch hinreichend für eine spirituelle Haltung. |
