The Role of Religions in Bringing an End to the Russian-Ukranian War: Based on the Perspective of Peace Presented by the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU)

| Summary: | 본 연구는 러시아와 우크라이나 전쟁에서 드러나고 있는 양국의 역사적, 종교적 이해에 주목하여 전쟁의 사상적 구심점 역할을 담당하고 있는 러시아 정교회의 상황을 분석하였다. 나아가 전쟁을 종식할 수 있는 종교의 역할을 가정연합의 평화관을 중심으로 제안해보고자 하였다. 가정연합은 모든 종교가 평화실현을 위한 초종교적 실천을 우선시해야 한다고 보고 있다. 이런 관점에서 볼 때 평화를 실현해야 하는 종교가 본연의 사명을 잃고 전쟁의 명분을 제공하는 문화적 폭력이 되어 있는 러시아의 상황을 되돌리기 위해 종교간 세계적 연대와 실천이 적극적으로 요청됨을 알 수 있었다. 이를 위해 첫째, 정교회를 비롯한 모든 종교가 한 목소리로 러시아⋅우크라이나 전쟁 종식과 평화를 촉구하여야 한다. 둘째, 미국과 러시아가 상호 신뢰를 회복할 수 있는 교류를 확대하는 데 종교가 기여해야 한다. 셋째 평화세계 실현을 위한 종교의 세계적 연대체를 구축할 수 있도록 해야 한다는 것을 제안하였다. Based on their religious and historical backgrounds, this study analyzes how the Orthodox Church has positioned itself in the Russo-Ukraine conflict as an ideological pivot. The paper proposes the role religions can play in solving the war based on the peace perspective of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU). It is the belief of FFWPU that all religions should prioritize interfaith practice in order to achieve peace. Therefore, taking into consideration the situation in Russia, wherein religion has lost its original purpose, but has instead aggravated cultural violence by creating a cause for war, we come to understand that global solidarity and practice between religions is an important call. First and foremost, all religions, including the Orthodox Church, should jointly call for peace and an end to the war. To restore mutual trust, religious groups should encourage more exchanges between Russia and the United States. As a third and final step toward achieving world peace, religions should encourage and build global solidarity. |
