Cyborg’s and AI’s reincarnation and liberation potential review: In the case of Kusanagi and the Puppet Master of "Ghost in the Shell"

Ⅰ장에서는 사전 정보를 간략히 정리한다. Ⅱ장에서는 이들의 윤회 가능성을 알아본다. 그 결과 유기체적 잔여를 지닌 쿠사나기는 비록 자신의 정체성을 의심한다 하여도 죽음 이후 윤회가 작용할 것으로 보인다. 그러나 유기체적 근거가 없는 인형사는 비록 자기 정체성을 주장함에도 윤회가 작용할 가능성이 낮아 보인다. Ⅲ장에서는 이들의 해탈 가능성을 알아본다. 쿠사나기에게 해탈은 선택과 노력에 의해 작용 가능할 것이다. 그러나 인형사의 경우 ‘중유(中有)를 매개한 윤회로부터의 해탈’은 가능성이 낮을 것으로 보이나 ‘현재적/현행적 욕망과 번뇌로부터의 해탈’은 작용 가능할 것이라는 결론에 이른다. This paper attempts to examine whether reincarnation and liberation are possible for the two main characters, Kusanagi and The Puppet Master, of the animation "Ghost in the Shell"(1995). "Reincarnation" is the ontological aspect of the universal life that Buddhism explains, and "Liberation" is the soteriology of it. Cyborg Kusanagi’s and AI The Puppet Master’s assessment of the possibility of reincarnation and liberation will be to submit an interpretation of the meaningful text "Ghost in the Shell". In addition, this study will serve as an opportunity to confirm whether the soteriology of Buddhism is still valid in the coming future. Chapter Ⅰ summarizes the information in advance. Chapter II examines the possibility of their reincarnation. As a result, although Kusanagi with organic remnants is likely to have a reincarnation after death, even if she doubts her identity, it seems that The Puppet Master without an organic basis is unlikely to have a reincarnation even though he claims his identity. Chapter Ⅲ examines the possibility of their liberation. For Kusanagi, liberation is a function of choice and effort. However, for The Puppet Master, "liberation from reincarnation through antarabhāva(中有)" is impossible, but it is concluded that "liberation from ongoing desire and anguish" is possible. |
