| 520 | |a 최근 몇몇 대형교회가 공공의 비판을 받을 정도로 사회적 물의를 빚은 사건들 때문에 이 논문을 쓰게 되었다. 성추문, 재정비리, 목사직 자격시비, 불법적 교회세습 등 복음 정신과는 배치되는 일들이 자행되었고 해당 교회는 이러한 비행에 대해 적절한 사과나 교정의 약속조차 하지 않았다. 오히려 종교에 대한 부당한 간섭 등을 운운하며 사회에 대해 배타적인 태도를 견지하고 있다. 우리 사회가 다종교 상황인데다 기독교인들의 숫자 또한 다른 종교에 비해 압도적이지 않은 여건에서 이러한 배타성은 사회의 평화뿐만 아니라 교회들이 존립의 근거로 삼는 복음의 정신을 훼손한다. 본 논문은 이러한 상황을 토대로 소위 보수적인 개신교회의 배타적 태도에 대한 사회역사적 요인들을 분석한다. 배타적 태도의 요인으로서는 첫째, 조상숭배와 관련하여 선교 초기에 겪은 박해로 인해 전통종교에 대해 갖게 된 비판적인 관점이 다른 종교를 우상숭배로 규정하게 한 점, 둘째, 경제 성장의 과정과 더불어 교회의 양적 성장이 동반됨으로써 성취주의적인 관점을 갖게 되고 이로 인해 우월성과 효율성에 대한 강박관념을 갖게 된 점, 셋째, 정기적인 신앙 활동을 통해 형성된 집단 응집성이 자기중심적 집단을 구성하게 한 점 등이다. 이러한 요인들은 모두 개신교의 배타성에 기여했고, 결과적으로, 만인을 사랑하라는 복음의 정신을 훼손해왔다. 이에 대해 본 논문이 제시하는 대안으로는 첫째, 우상숭배와 관련된 성경 본문의 의도가 타종교를 배척하라는 것이 아니라 자신의 신앙의 충실성을 제고하라는 것이었음을 확인할 것, 둘째, 성취주의적 관점은 기독교왕국을 건설하려는 시도와 연결되므로 나보다 남을 낫게 여기라는 복음의 가르침을 성찰할 것, 셋째, 성경은 교인들이 복음의 증인으로서 살 것을 요구하므로 자기중심적 경향을 벗어나 사회에서 복음을 실천하는 일에 집중할 것 등이다. 결론적으로, 보수적 개신교는 종교의 순수성을 확보하려는 명분 때문에 배타적 태도를 고수할 것이 아니라 복음의 정신으로 되돌아가(‘ad fontes’) 그 증인이 되려는 노력을 경주함으로써 다종교사회에서 "교회다움"의 증거를 보여주어야 한다. | ||
| 520 | |a This paper was inspired by the recent illegitimate practices some megachurches committed: sexual harassment, financial embezzlement, clerical disqualification, ecclesiastically illegal transmission of pastorship and so on. They did not bother to give ears to public criticisms, nor respond with appropriate apology for their misconducts. It is undeniable that they evidently violate the Gospel they are teaching. It shows that they are exclusive after all other possible causes. Focusing on their exclusivism, this paper analyzes its grounding reasons as follows: so-called "conservative" Protestantism has regarded other religions as idolatrous since it adheres to the traditional understanding of the idolatry issue on the basis of its historical experience of persecutions; it has developed an achievementalistic mindset that creates superiority complex; and it has sustained relatively high group cohesiveness through its members’ regular attendance in religious services and their related practices, which results in a formation of self-oriented community. Those reasons have driven Protestant churches to be exclusive, knowingly or unknowingly contributing to damaging the Gospel, which is why we call their practices illegitimate. In order to show how they return legitimate to the Gospel, this paper makes some suggestions: Conservative Protestantism should be able to reinterpret the biblical text about idolatry for the purpose of "living peaceably with all"; it should make humble obedience to the Gospel, wearing away the Christendom mindset; it should prepare for being embodied witnesses to the Gospel instead of being indulged in self-oriented communion. Such suggestions will help bring Protestant churches toward "being the church" in our multi-religious society. | ||
