| Summary: | The article gives an overview of the development and modifications of ecological theology in the last fifty years, including the use of the terms such as "creation" and "responsibility for the environment" in political and prominent legal documents. A decision of the German Federal Constitutional Court in 2021 marks a turning point because the concern for the freedom of future generations was now implemented as an ethical and legal standard for climate and nature protection measures. The theological concept of nature, presented in this article, moves the reasoning further to include aesthetic and agonal aspects. The article concludes with a sketch of the dogmatic and socio-ethical consequences to be drawn on this basis. It proposes a critical self-limitation of human acts and a commitment to acts that preserve and make possible the diversity of nature and the freedom of future generations. |
