Description
Summary:This article aims to discuss the bases of the tension between the teaching practice in School Religious Education (ER) and religions of African origin, considering two layers: scientific and social. In the first part, it intends to explain how the lack of recognition of some epistemological assumptions can make it impossible to understand the place of religions of African origin in the ER. In the second part, it discusses the origin of prejudice in relation to these religious expressions, based on the sociological thesis that slavery defines the segregationist functioning of Brazilian society until the present day. Through a bibliographic investigation, we seek to show that the causes of discrimination against religions of African origin - as a school content - can be identified in the lack of knowledge of RE as a technical-scientific process; and in culturalist racism as a way to persist the logic of slavery by other means.
