| Summary: | The contribution reconstructs some salient points of the theoretical analysis proposed by the Italian sociologist Massimo Rosati regarding sacred space. Adopting a fully Durkhemian perspective, Rosati discusses how space reflects and contributes to the symbolic classification systems that organize social and moral life and that rest, essentially, on the sacred-profane distinction. According to Rosati, religious symbolism has not ceased to fill the morphological organization of social spaces with meaning and to inform the complex fabric of modern cities. At the same time, in plural contexts, symbolisms multiply and confront each other. In this scenario, Rosati provides us with questions that invest the stability of a possible fundamental grammar of sacred places. |
