Description
Summary:In this paper, I explore the relationship between food and eating in two Abrahamic faiths, viz. Islam and Christianity. I show how these religions create provisions that entreat followers to consume in an ecologically conscientious manner that is not only good for the consumers but for the society and planet as well. In effect, traditional symbolic systems such as religions that provide "magical solutions" can also provide modern solutions to modern crises confronting modern societies in today’s world. I argue that Islam and Christianity are highly relevant in today’s world where they provide for safe, healthy, and socially conscientious living.
