Description
Summary:In this text, we focus on the topic of prayer in the general Islamic sense and its specific features in personal, collective, cultural and linguistic terms, in the life of the believer and the organised religious community. Prayer plays an important role in Islamic religious doctrine and practice. Through prayer, man, a created being, connects with God the Creator, the Living and the Eternal, and remains in a permanent relationship with Him. God has given life to man and knows all his secrets. In Islam, human life begins with prayer, which immediately follows the naming of the child, and ends with the ritual prayer at the funeral. Prayer is an integral part of human life and a constant in health, sickness, happiness and sorrow, in success and in failure. Prayer is a way of giving thanks to God, entrusting the most intimate moments of life to Him, asking for personal success, for the success of the family and the community. The most important concepts for understanding prayer are istighfar, tawbah, dhikr, fikr, duʿāʾ, and salat. The substantive, essential part of the prayer is based on the foundation of the Qur'an and the Hadith, and on the experience accumulated by Islamic teachers in the various historical manifestations of Islam. The formal and practical way of performing the prayer is taken directly from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We will conclude the paper with an example of how, in BiH, the old pre-Slavic and Christian open-air prayer gathering places (‘molitvištaʼ) have taken on a new dimension under the influence of Islam and have become, in cultural terms, Muslim places of supplication (‘dovištaʼ), which to a large extent define the established religious practice of contemporary Muslims.
V tem sestavku se posvečamo temi molitve v splošnem islamskem pomenu in z njenimi posebnostmi v osebnem, kolektivnem, kulturološkem in jezikovnem smislu, v življenju vernika in organizirane verske skupnosti.
