| Summary: | L’objectif de cet article est d’explorer une tension sociale marginale à Taïwan: le rejet par les chrétiens protestants des rites ancestraux. Bien que marginale, cette tension sociale mérite une investigation approfondie en raison de son impact latent sur l’identité culturelle reconnue par les chrétiens protestants. Les rites ancestraux, qui jouent un rôle de médiation entre la religion (offrandes sacrificielles, 祭 ji) et la moralité (ritualité confucéenne, 禮 li) à Taïwan, pourquoi les chrétiens protestants rejettent-ils ce rite et se désengagent-ils ainsi de la pratique normative du peuple ? En provoquant des conflits familiaux avec une telle attitude de rejet au sein de leur famille non chrétienne, peuvent-ils améliorer leurs relations familiales sans trahir leur foi chrétienne ? Peuvent-ils accommoder le rite d’une manière chrétienne ? Cet article examine cette tension dans un cadre conceptuel d’inter-ritualité, soutenant que les dynamiques changeantes de l’inter-ritualité peuvent remodeler la compréhension chrétienne conventionnelle du rite et réapproprier celui-ci à des fins chrétiennes sans trahir la foi chrétienne. The purpose of this article is to explore a marginal social tension in Taiwan: Protestant Christians’ rejection of ancestral rites. Though marginal, the social tension merits a careful investigation for its latent impact on the social identity acknowledged by Protestant Christians. Given that ancestral rites mediate between religion (offering sacrifices, 祭 ji) and morality (Confucian rituality, 禮 li)1 in Taiwan, why do Protestant Christians reject the rite and thus disengage themselves from the normative practice of the people? While causing family feud with such a rejection attitude in their non-Christian family, can they improve their family relations without contravening their Christian faith? Can they accommodate the rite in a Christian manner? This article examines the tension in a conceptual framework of inter-rituality, arguing that the changing dynamics of inter-rituality may re-shape the conventional Christian understanding of the rite and reappropriate the rite for Christian purpose without contravening Christian faith. |
