Description
Summary:This cross-sectional survey was used to investigate wheelchair-accessibility of 193 buildings used as Religious places of worship (RPW) in Anambra State Nigeria. Measurements of width of routes, door width, height of steps, and grade of ramps were taken and accessibility was determined by comparing these with standards stipulated in the American with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. Majority of the doorways (94.3%) and routes (94.8%) were wheelchair-accessible. The proportion of accessible ramps and steps were 4.2% and 10.2% of buildings respectively. None of the 61 RPW adjudged as requiring elevators had any. Overall only 3.6% of RPW were wheelchair-accessible.
