| Summary: | This article analyzes the role of external resources in mission in relation to a recent mission model called Vulnerable Mission (VM). VM advocates the use of local language and local resources to empower local churches and Christians. The findings in this article suggest that VM is a compelling response to situations that draw heavily on external resources. However, this article advocates for a methodological clarification to the VM model. The suggested clarification posits mission work within the framework of the priority of local resources over external resources. This clarification aims at retaining the key insights from VM’s model and also aims at strengthening it. The author’s involvement in theological education in Southeast Asia is called on as auto-ethnographic evidence for revising the VM model. |
